Shopify theme studio

Themes for brands that have something to prove.

Kova builds a small number of Shopify themes, slowly. Each one is designed for catalogs where the product has to be explained before it can be sold — and held to performance and accessibility numbers that are checked on every commit, not promised in marketing copy.

How we build

Four rules, applied to everything we ship

  1. Performance is a build gate

The JavaScript budget is checked by a pre-commit hook and a GitHub Action. If a change pushes the authored bundle past 16 KB minified, the build fails and the change does not ship. It is a ceiling, not an aspiration.

  2. Accessibility is measured, not claimed

Contrast ratios, touch targets, keyboard paths, and focus order are audited against WCAG 2.1 AA before a section is considered finished. Every storefront path stays operable from the keyboard alone.

  3. Structure over decoration

Anyone can ship another hero with a gradient. Our sections exist to carry substance — ingredient references, comparison matrices, documented evidence — because that is what a considered purchase actually needs.

  4. Nothing depends on an app

Every section works with a plain Shopify catalog on the day you install it. Apps can extend a theme through app blocks, but they are never required to make one function.

What we make

One theme at a time, finished properly. Kova would rather ship a single theme that passes review than four that nearly do.

More in development. The next Kova theme is aimed at a different catalog shape entirely. Waitlist members hear about it first.
